Chemical Face Peel

Perfect for pigmentation, texture and dehydrated skin

A chemical face peel is a type of facial which acts as as an exfoliant to remove the dead skin cells from the area treated. Whilst it can sound scary (don’t worry, your face doesn’t actually peel off, just a layer of skin!) the chemical face peel we use here at Sero Aesthetics, the Perfect Peel® contains a combination of powerful ingredients that not only makes it one of the most effective face peels on the market, it is also one of the most gentle.

The Perfect Peel® is a medium depth peel that works on the deeper layers of skin improving the appearance of melanoma (a type of pigmentation) whilst also reducing and removing sun damage and improving skin conditions like ache. It is also currently the only chemical peel on the market to use glutathione as one of its key ingredients which helps in repairing the skin, leaving it super glowy after just one week.

Whilst the peel is considered one of the most gentle, it can’t be underestimated with its perfect blend of Retinoic, trichloroacetic and salicylic acid, used to break down dead skin cells, speeding up cell turn over and calming down the inflammation often accompanying acne. Glutathione isn’t the only glow causing ingredient, with both kojic acid and Vitamin C working together to dampen down pigmentation and with it, brightening the skin. But the perfect peel® wouldn’t be perfect without the show stopping phenol, encouraging the peel to work on the deeper levels, leaving the skin looking healthier in just a few days.

Chemical Face Peel Havant

Case Study

A came to see us as the melasma she'd gained through pregnancy had stayed and it didn't matter what products she was using at home, nothing was working. We carried out a derma planing treatment to help with deeper penetration and followed that on with a medium depth chemical face peel. She came back for a review a month later and couldn't believe the results shed got from one chemical face peel.

Frequently Asked Questions

I am not sure I like the idea of all the chemicals.

The word “chemical” means a substance that has a defined composition, this means that everything we breathe, see eat and touch is made up of chemicals. Whilst some might be man made, they are actually exact copies of the natural substance and in some cases, are less risky than the natural version as those risks are removed during the process.

Like many skin care ingredients, the ingredients used with the Perfect Peel® are primarily natural, for example, Phenols are usually found in the plant word, Salicylic acid comes from the bark of willow trees and retinoic acid is synthesised from Vitamin A which can be found in foods such as carrots and spinage.

Is it painful?

Whilst everyone reacts differently, the vast majority of people will find the Perfect Peel® very comfortable. You will probably feel some discomfort, e.g tingling and/or a sensation of tightness, but it should not be painful.

How long does the peel take?

The process of carrying out a chemical face peel will vary between peels, however, the Perfect Peel® only takes about 15 minutes to complete, however we will spend time prior to treatment to discuss your current skin regime and to make any suggestions on how to make it more effective.

Do I need any skin preparation?

There is no pre-peel preparation and you can use your daily skin care products as you normally would, however, we do suggest to stop using any retinols for a minimum of 3 days before your peel and for at least 10 days after your peel as it can make you’re skin more sensitive

Will I peel?

This will depend on how resistant your skin is, but if you don’t peel, it doesn’t mean your skin hasn’t exfoliated. There any many peels on the market that exfoliate gently and work progressively, rather than aggressively. You may also find that if you have dermplaning within 3-4 weeks of your peel, use retinoids often or regularly exfoliate, that you may also not see the appearance of peeling as others might.

How long will i peel for and when will I start peeling?

By the time you get to day 3 you are likely to start peeling and it can last 3-4 days. During this time we advise following the aftercare advice closely to ensure you get the best out of your Perfect Peel® whilst reducing the risks of any complications.

Can I have a chemical face peel when I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Unfortunately, the Perfect Peel® is not licensed to be used on pregnant or breast feeding mothers. If you would like to have an exfoliating treatment whilst pregnant or breast feeding, we would suggest trying dermaplaning as this is safe for you to have.

What is a chemical face peel good for?

Chemical face peels are very effective for a variety of skin complaints such as pigmentation, acne, skin dullness, fine lines and wrinkles and can often be even more effective when combining it with other treatments such as dermaplaning and in conjunction with a good skin care routine at home.

Unfortunately, if you are having professional treatments and not looking after your skin at home, its like going go the gym and ordering a take away when you get home!

How long does the effects of a chemical face peel last for?

This will depend on what the peel is being used for. For example, if you are using it to brighten the skin, and reduce the appearance of pigmentation, it can be permanent providing that there is a good skin care routine at home and including, but limited to the use of a really good SPF. For maximum effect however, we recommend having a peel once every 3-4 month to maintain the results and prevent further signs of ageing and environmental skin damage.

What are the side effects and downtime like of a chemical face peel?

Everyone will be different in the effects they have from a chemical peel. You can expect to be a little red post peel which may feel a but like sun burn and can last a few days, it is also not uncommon for your skin to be slightly swollen and itchy. Due to the stimulation to the skin, it is also not uncommon to experience purging of the skin which can cause spots, this is usually a sign that the chemical peel has been working its magic.

What can go wrong with a chemical face peel?

Nothing is without its risks and that’s no different for chemical face peels and includes hyper or hypo pigmentation of the skin (this is temporary but can become permanent if not properly managed), burning and blisters which can lead to infection and scarring, allergic reactions, chemical inhalation and ocular exposure to the chemicals.

Can I have a chemical face peel if I have dark skin?

Some chemical face peels are not appropriate for darker skin, and there are some peels that need those with darker skin to have some skin preparation prior to having the peel. The Perfect Peel® however is perfect for all skin types from pale skin with a Fitzpatrick 1, to a dark skin with a Fitzpatrick 6.
