Scars are a natural part of the body’s healing process. They form when the skin is damaged and the body responds by producing collagen fibers to repair the wound. While scars are a normal occurrence, they can be unsightly and cause discomfort.
There are several ways that scars can occur with he most common being from injuries such as cuts and burns, but can also be caused by surgical procedures, chicken pox, pregnancy, insect bites and skin conditions such as acne. These types of injuries can cause the skin to break open, resulting in the formation of a scar.
While scars are a natural part of the body’s healing process by producing collage fibres to repair the wound, they can be unsightly and cause an individual to become self conscious over their appearance.
Thankfully, there are several options to help reduce the appearance of scars, with one suggesting an improvement of up to 80%!

Sero Aesthetics is a medically led clinic, based in Havant, near Portsmouth, putting patients at the heart of what we do, delivering treatments in a holistic way whilst encouraging our patients to be a part of the decision making process.
The use of retinol can help encourage cell turnover, plumping up the skin and boosting the hydration, elastin and collage production. You do need to be a bit careful when using it however as it can cause skin sensitivity so if you are interested in having a go with retinol, book in to have a chat with us and we can guide you through it!
Other treatments that can help that we do not offer include:
Steroid Injections:
Steroid injections are specific for keloid scarring and do have some evidence of helping but it is not the most effective way of dealing with scars.
Laser Therapy:
Laser therapy can help reduce the appearance of scars, but will not get rid of them completely.
Surgery:
In some cases, revision surgery maybe necessary to get rid of scars, however if the scars are keloid, it maybe counterproductive to do this as it can result in a worsening appearance of scars.
