Spider veins and thread veins, also known as telangiectasia are web-like clusters of tiny blood vessels often blue, red or purple in nature that most commonly affect the legs. Whilst they are harmless and affect millions of people worldwide, they can cause self-consciousnesses and put many people off wearing shorts and skirts in the sunnier climates.
There can be many causes of spider veins such as genetics and sun exposure, whilst certain lifestyles choices such as smoking, obesity can increase the risk of them occurring. However, hormonal changes are often found to be the main culprit and spider veins can frequently pop up around puberty, pregnancy and the menopause.
Spider veins tend to be a lot smaller than varicose veins which can be painful, swollen and appear twisted in the legs and we would usually recommend seeing a vascular surgeon if you are hoping to have these removed.

We are a medically led clinic based in Havant, on the boundary to Portsmouth in Hampshire specialising in medically lead aesthetic treatments. Unfortunately there won’t be anything effective you can use at home to remove the spider veins yourself, however for those with pale skin, we often suggest using fake tan to tone down the appearance of the veins and we have found this to be very affective.

Causes damage to the inside of the blood vessels which prevent the blood from flowing through, eventually killing off the spider vein.
Other treatments that can help that we do not offer include:
Laser/IPL:
Targeting the colour of the veins, laser/IPL cause the vein walls to collapse which are then reabsorbed by your body.
Surgery:
In some cases, surgery may be the only option for leg veins and would be the case if they were varicose in nature.
