You may have experienced areas of fat across your body that are resistant to diet and exercise. This can be caused by genetics as well as certain types of receptors in those areas that not only hinder the metabolisation of fat, but also encourage the release of fat, so you can't exercise or diet on these areas and they'll retain their shape and size regardless of how many times you exercise or how many pounds you loose.
In most cases, men tend to accumulate more fat around their abdomen, called visceral fat, whilst women tend to experience more stubborn fat around their hips, thighs and buttocks, generally as a result of hormonal influences and most often, around their abdomen. Furthermore, the hips and thighs tend to have a high number of receptors which inhibit the metabolisation of fat meaning that spot reduction through exercise can be difficult, where as the lower back and love handles can be difficult to shift due to hormonal and genetic predisposition.
