Cellulite, also known as orange peel or cottage cheese skin, most commonly occurs across the bottom and thighs and whilst a normal variant, can make you feel very self conscious.

Cellulite is generally only found in women and is caused by fat cells under the skin being trapped between connective tissue. The dimpling occurs due to the tethering of the upper and lower layers of skin and can affect women of all shapes and sizes and unfortunately, this means that anything used on top of the skin, for example cellulite creams or brushes won’t work because it doesn’t do anything to the tethers.

Liposuction is one treatment that can work effectively, however as the breakage of tethers is a side effect of the treatment, it doesn’t target them specifically which makes CelluErase the best and most effective treatment for cellulite on the market.

CelluErase is actually the name of the tool that is used to break the tethers under the skin, releasing the compression of the surrounding fat cells and smoothing out the dimples. As the tethers are targeting specifically, rather than as a side effect of another treatment, it makes CelluErase not only more effective than other treatments such as liposuction, but also more cost effective and with the additional advantage of least amount of downtime.

Subsequently, because CelluErase works by breathing the tethers between skin layers, the treatment can also be used the subscision of c-section scars which cause the deep dimpling/step appearance.

On the day we will discuss the treatment with you in detail, along with the alternatives that may be available for you.

We will mark up the dimples that are due to be treated, clean the area with skin disinfectant, then inject local anaesthetic.

Once we are sure the local anaesthetic has taken affect, we will proceed by using the tool to break the skin very superficially and gliding the tool underneath where the tethers are. You can often feel the pulling and release of the tethers which is accompanied by a sound that is similar to a stitch in fabric being broken.

Once all the areas have been treated, we will re-clean the skin and apply sterile dressings to the area which we suggest keeping on for several days.

How long does Celluerase take?

We book a minimum of an hour for everyone, although some patients may need a little longer depending on the extent of the cellulite.

The consultation and consenting at the beginning takes the majority of the appointment time as we are firm believers that patients should be fully informed as to what they are agreeing to.

Will I need more than one treatment of Celluerase?

This will depend depend on what you hope to achieve out of your treatment and how you body responds. We have seen some brilliant results with just one treatment and we’ve seen others which have needed more than one. The vast majority of patients will only need one treatment to achieve their results.

What is the downtime for Celluerase?

You will be numb for an hour or two after treatment and will feel a little tender for up to 10 day after but you will be able to carry out your every day activities as normal.

What are the alternatives to Celluerase?

It is important to note that anything that claims to work by doing or applying it to the external aspect of the skin will not work.

There are also many claims of treatments that will work for cellulite that actually only tackle the fat cells, rather than the cause of cellulite, the tethering. In these situations, you need to be aware that if fat is deposited through weight gain, the dimpling will appear straight back.

Whilst there are several treatment options out there, in our opinion, CelluErase is the best way to get rid of cellulite for good, but as an alternative, liposuction can work well as due to the way the procedure is carried out, the tethers are broken during the process.

Does Celluerase Hurt?

The injections of local anaesthetic can be a little stingy but after that you shouldn’t be able to feel anything until several hours after the treatment where you may feel a little bruised.

When will I see the difference?

You are likely to see some difference straight way, however because the area will be under dressings, it will be a few days before you are able to see the initial results, however it can take several weeks for you to see the final outcome of the treatment.

What are the risks and side effects of Celluerase?

Whilst there are always risks and side affects of any treatment, the main ones we have encountered are bleeding during treatment, bruising which can be very similar to that of liposuction, lumps and bumps for several weeks after treatments and pigmentation.

Most of the side effects go away within a few weeks, however pigmentation may take longer and may need several treatments of microneedling and other home products to resolve- most patients however prefer to take the risk of a slight discolouration over the dimpled effect of cellulite

Can the Cellulite come back after treatment?

Cellulite will not return where the tethers have been removed, however if the amount of fat cells in a single location changes, it might be that cellulite appears due to the cells becoming more compartmentalised and tethered down.

Can Celluerase help with scars?

Due to the fact that Celluerase uses the technique of subscision, it can be a very effective treatment for caesarean scars where puckering occurs due to the tethering of the scar. When you combine CelluErase with microneedling, you maximise the effect of the treatment from both sides as microneedling helps to break up and internal scarring.
