Body Piercing

Body piercings are a great way of expressing yourself and in some cases help reduce anxiety and headaches.

Body piercings, more specifically nose and ear piercings have been around for centuries, with the oldest mummified body, found frozen in an Austrian Glacier was discovered to have its ears pierced with expanded lobes measuring 7-11 in diameter and is currently the oldest evidence found for body piercing, aged at 5,000 years ago!

Body piercings are still used for cultural purposes today, but are more commonly used for self expression and considered an important part of an individual's identity.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to get pierced?

Body piercings start from £25 and go up to £45 depending on the location of
your piercing

Will the piercing bleed?

In most cases, your piercing will bleed during the process but this is very
normal, some piercings are more prone to bleeding that others but don’t panic, we prepare for it!

When can I change a piercing?

You an change the piercing after it is fully healed. If you do this before then
you are opening up the piercing for infection and putting a new post through it may open up the healing skin underneath taking longer to heal overall.

What metal do you pierce with?

We pierce with EO Gas sterilised Grade 23 Titanium which is the only type that should be used to pierce new piercings. Once the piercing is healed, any type of metal can be used, however with new piercing, you are more likely to get problems if it is pierced with anything other than sterilised Grade 23 Titanium.

What shouldn’t I do with a new piercing?

The new piercing should not be played with and we would advise not putting any make up or perfume ect over the area for a good couple of weeks. We would also advise to avoid swimming pools for around 2 weeks as chlorine can irritate your piercing.

Does it hurt?

Body piercings can sting a little, the location is a huge factor in how painful they are, for example, a piercing in the upper part of the ear is more uncomfortable than the lobe. You can always take pain killers such as paracetamol before to help make things a little more comfortable and as a Registered Nurse, we are also allowed to use numbing cream prior to your piercing if necessary however we would need you to come in 30 minutes early for your appointment to do this and you would have to let us know before your appointment that you would like to do this.

How do I look after my new piercing?

We do not suggest using salt water to help clean the piercing as the amount of salt can vary each time and in some cases be too much for the new piercing.

We suggest using sodium chloride pods as these are consistent in their make up. We do suggest cleaning but not spinning your piercing as this can be traumatic and we give each person an after care kit to look after their new
piercing when they leave us.

How long does the piercing appointment take?

A piercing appointment takes no more than about 20 minutes. This gives us
an opportunity to review your medical history, prepare you and the area, carry out your piercing and go through the after care instructions with you.

Who can bring my under 18 to their piercing appointment?

Only an individual with parental responsibility such as a mother, father or legal guardian can attend and must be accompanied by a letter giving consent for the specific piercing

Can you numb it?

Most body piercers are not allowed to use numbing creams prior to a piercing, however, as a Registered Nurse, we are able to, however we would need you to come in 30 minutes early for your appointment to do this and you would have to let us know before your appointment that you would like to do this.

How long do piercings take to heal?

How long a piercing takes to heal takes into account several factors. For
example, different ares of the body take longer to heal that others, the tongue takes a few weeks, whilst an ear can take a few months. The other factor is how the piercing is looked after, we do not suggest touching the piercing except for cleaning and we advise to be really careful not to snag it on clothes or when you brush your hair ect as every traumatic nudge to the piercing can affect its healing time.

What age do you pierce from?

We pierce from 10 years old for ear lobe piercings, 14 for the rest of the ear, nose and navel, 16 for tongue, lips and eyebrow and 18 for nipples.

Please note that under 18s must have written consent by an individual with
parental responsibility who must be present at the time of the piercing being carried out.
